Is the process completed after you get a hair transplant?
Things you need to know after hair transplantation if you want the worthwhile results and the regrowth your hair without falling out afterwards. Many people think that hair transplantation is the best approach for hair restoration and once the hair transplant is complete, it’s over. However, in fact, that is only the beginning of a new journey that calls for comprehension and gentle care.
Hair graft is not a magic bean that grows right out of the box. It is a “real hair root” that has just been transplanted. To allow the hair root to heal and become strong enough to develop in the new location, it need time to settle down and regular attention to all aspects of your life.
This article will explain the best ways to take care of your hair at every stage following a hair transplant, as well as the most common mistakes individuals make (and when they do…the hair actually falls out, no kidding!).
Don’t get a hair transplant… if you haven’t read this yet!

1. Numbness, head heaviness, and the sensation of carrying a XXL helmet
Don’t think you’re strange; the anesthesia that is administered into the scalp during the procedure is the reason why many people experience lightheadedness, a feeling of floating, or a feeling of being heavy like they’re wearing ten helmets. The anesthesia takes 6 to 10 hours to wear off, but even after that, the numbness may persist for several days.
Don’t worry, this condition typically resolves gradually over two to three months. Because nerves naturally regenerate themselves more slowly than other cells, it takes a long period.
2. Pain, swelling, and itching: the three biggest problems after hair transplantation
Pain:
There will be some stinging pain once the anesthesia wears off, which is typical for a “micro incision” on your scalp. Don’t worry, though, because the doctor has prescribed painkillers. Your head will feel considerably more comfortable the next day when you clean the wound and apply medication.
Swelling:
The reason for the swollen eyes and face-like bites from five mosquitoes is not an allergy, inflammation, or infection, rather, it is the result of water being injected beneath the skin prior to the transplant, which gravity causes to slowly flow down. It will eventually go away on its own in 5-7 days by being absorbed into the lymphatic system, especially if you sleep with your head up and use pillows to raise it. This will help keep the swelling from excessively descending to the eyes, especially when you have hair transplants to create a frontal frame of the face.
Itching:
When the wound starts to heal, scabs start to form, and the wound starts to dry, that is when the scalp starts to send signals, “It’s itchy!” Because the newly planted grafts are not yet firmly attached. Excessive scratching will result in pointless hair loss.
Tips and trick:
– Apply a moisturizing spray (provided by the clinic)
– Apply oil, such as coconut oil or olive oil, to soften the scabs, then wash your hair as recommended by your doctor and it will come off on its own.
3. Shock Loss: Hair loss around the recipient area, like being stabbed in the back!
Would you be shocked if the hair around recipient area plant suddenly started to fall out?
Take it easy — this is temporary condition.
Shock Loss is caused by stress on the hair follicles—not your mind—after being pierced, injected, or restyled. The hair follicles remain in place, they merely temporarily go to sleep. The original hair may fall out in both the recipient area and the nape of the neck. After at least three to four months, as the transplanted hair begins to regrow, new hair will begin to grow back.
It is a break time that allow the hair follicles to regrow more beautifully.
4. Acnes develop on the recipient area—like hair pleading to be revived
Have you noticed that there are small pimples popping up at the recipient area?
Don’t worry, some of the new hair roots may causing discomfort, which can lead to mild inflammation and acne.
How to deal with acnes like a pro:
– Use mild acne medication (avoid touching the grafts).
– Gently squeeze it if you are certain your hands are clean.
– if you are afraid to squeeze your acne or if it does not go away in three days, see a doctor at our clinic and let us take care of it.
5. An inflamed, infected, purulent wound: This is abnormal and must be treated right away!
Although this symptom is uncommon (never seen at BEQ Hair Center), foreign sources state that you should not wait at all if the wound is swollen, red, hot, tender, or has pus. This is due to the fact that if it’s left untreated, it can result in permanent scarring, hair loss, or even death of the hair follicles. It can be fatal if the infection enters the bloodstream (sepsis)!
Sepsis signs:
– High fever, chills
– Heart palpitations, tachypnea
How to survive the sepsis: Bring yourself to the doctor right away if you experience any unusual symptoms! Don’t expect it to disappear anytime soon.

6. Abnormal bleeding (You can’t leave it untreated)
You may experience some bleeding because there are thousands of small wounds after hair transplantation. However, the following issues could arise if the bleeding is excessive or does not cease despite applying pressure:
– Hypertension
– Medicines or blood clotting disorders
What to do?
– Press the wound firmly with a clean cloth for 5 minutes.
– If the bleeding does not stop, press again.
– Call the clinic right away if the bleeding doesn’t stop. Don’t wait.

The first two weeks = golden time!
The first 14 days following hair transplantation, where hair follicles are not yet securely attached to the scalp is the golden time frame. Hair loss after hair transplantation can be caused by bumps, squeezes, twists, pulls, and rubs. Don’t assume that a little scratching is okay. Some people lose their entire graft simply because they wore a hat too tight!
How to Sleep After Hair Transplant
Since they must sleep with their heads up, many people have trouble falling asleep. But keep in mind that throughout this period, gravity is not on your side. If you lie flat or face down, the fluid that was injected during the procedure will flow downward due to gravity, which may make your face swell.
To lessen swelling and avoid compressing the graft, sleep with your head raised at a 45-degree angle and support it with two or three pillows, or use a U-shaped pillow.
How to wash your hair like a pro (on a day when you can’t rub your hair!)
Do not wash your hair for the first 24 to 48 hours! After hair transplant, let the clinic wash your hair to remove blood stains and examine the wound.
Following Day 2, wash yourself once or twice day with a gentle shampoo or the clinic’s recommended solution. After making a lather with your hands, carefully “”dab and lift” the shampoo onto your scalp. Avoid vigorous rubbing. Use only room temperature water, then either let it air dry or blow dry with a cool dryer
The sun is not your friend.
Avoid direct sunlight as UV radiation, particularly UVA rays, can harm the roots of transplanted hair by penetrating your scalp. Wear a wide-brimmed hat that doesn’t press on the grafts and isn’t too tight or stuffy if you must go outside. If possible, wear a special hat from the clinic that is specifically designed for hair transplant patients.
Fitness enthusiasts must know! When can you resume your exercise?
Many individuals dislike sitting still and prefer to exercise, go to the gym, or do other activities, but if they rush too much, their hard-earned money can be squandered!
Before beginning any strenuous workouts, please make sure you fully grasp the following instructions.
The first 7 days:
Avoid any activity that causes excessive sweating or impact to your head, such jogging, cycling, yoga, brisk walking, bending, and heavy chores, especially when you’re head-down.
The first 14 days:
You have to take a break and refrain from extreme sports, fitness, parties like
Weightlifting, intense running, and CrossFit.
Swimming (both in the pool and the sea)
Sauna, steam, hot yoga
Martial arts or any kind of physical sports
Food & Alcohol: The (Not) Small Things That Make Big Differences
You can eat anything you want to your heart content.
Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for at least 2–3 days since it increases bleeding and slows down healing process.
Partying is okay, but you need to exercise self-control to avoid being hurt or hitting the recipient area during the first two weeks.
2–6 weeks: Shock loss! Don’t panic.
The transplanted hair eventually falls out during this period. This is the typical Shedding Phase, sometimes known as “Shock Loss”. Hair follicles do not fall out, only the hair shafts do. The hair follicles are getting ready to produce new hair and are still securely anchored beneath the skin. The recipient area may experience shock loss or hair loss, and most people recover from this condition in three to four months.
Month 1–3: Resting period. Don’t be impatient.
Your hair is not growing at this period because the hair follicles are in the resting phase, ready to regrown. In order to give the hair follicles more nutrients, PRP, exosomes, or vitamin therapies are advised. Avoid constantly utilizing chemicals on your hair (perming, coloring, or hot ironing) to prevent weak, immature hair from being harmed.
Months 3–4: Hair begins to appear awkwardly.
During this period, the new hair grows but it is weak, wispy, and thin. You may see hair stubble. Don’t panic, it will soon reach full growth.
Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo. Do not vigorously scratch or comb your head.
Consume foods that are beneficial for hair, such as whole beans, eggs, protein, zinc, biotin, and B vitamins.
Month 4–6: The hair strands get denser and begin to take on more definition.
Your hair grows thicker and begins to resemble your original hair.
Keep in mind to be gentle with your scalp as your hair is still developing.
Months 6–12: Glowing period, get visible results
You will notice a noticeable increase in hair density and the effectiveness of hair transplantation. You can begin utilizing chemical treatments (coloring, perming, and dying), but you should let the technician know that you have had a hair transplant. You should also always use products that are gentle to your scalp and utilize PRP or Exosome to keep your hair healthy and encourage hair growth.
